MANILA, Philippines – Lottie Manalo-Hemedez and Angel Manalo, estranged siblings of Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) executive minister Eduardo Manalo, will remain at their residence at 36 Tandang Sora, Quezon City, for the time being, as the writ of execution filed by the INC has been denied.

In a 4-page decision released on July 25, the Quezon City Regional Trial Court (QC RTC) Branch 43 turned down the petition for writ of execution filed by the INC in June for lack of merit.

A granted petition would have carried out the decision of the Manila Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 12, which ordered the Manalos to “immediately vacate” the property – the subject of ownership claims between Hemedez and the INC. (READ: Court orders Manalo siblings out of 36 Tandang Sora)

According to QC RTC Branch 43 presiding judge Don Ace Mariano Alagar, Hemedez and Angel were able to file their appeal within the prescribed period and weren’t required to pay supersedeas bonds – some conditions needed to temporarily suspend a court decision. “In the absence of compelling reasons, there is no reason to grant the issuance of a writ of execution in view of the perfection of the appeal of defendants,” Alagar said.

The recent decision is the latest in the crisis that hit the influential 101-year-old church, all stemming from the expulsion of Hemedez and Angel following a YouTube video where Angel and their mother Tenny claimed a threat to their lives in July 2015 after allegations of corruption were exposed.

Since being expelled from the INC, they have remained inside their compound in Quezon City.

The Manalo siblings have also accused the church, led by their estranged brother Eduardo, of harassment as they refuse to give up their right to the property.

Aside from a wall built to enclose the compound, the Manalo siblings have been deprived of water and electricity, after unpaid bills amounted to more than P1 million. (READ: After P1M unpaid Meralco bill, power cut in INC Manalo house) – Rappler.com
